Having volunteered for six months inside Rocinha favela with the União de Mulheres pro Melhoramento de Roupa Suja (Union of Women for the Improvement of Roupa Suja Neighbourhood), I made this film about their work.

It tells the story of the founder Marcia Ferreira, who was born and raised in the favela and runs the NGO which helps local women through childcare, activities and other forms of support.

It also tells the story of some of the women who benefit from the organisation. One of them is Cintia, whose twin daughters attend the nursery. Cintia is someone who we have continued to work with since this was made in 2009, filming her over the years to document the changes going on with her and around her in the favela and Brazil.
