One in three women across the world experience violence or assault. In Sierra Leone, the routes to justice are complicated. Many women can’t afford to make the trip to the police station, or don’t even have the support of their family to make an allegation. It’s common for cases to be informally settled with a pay out to the survivor. FINE SALON (Fambul Initiative Network for Equality Sierra Leone) is supported by VSO and runs the ‘Husband’s School’ – a series of workshops that bring together men to talk about healthy relationships, laws against violence and conflict resolution.
